Extensive power boating is allowed on the lake. Feel free to bring up your ski boat, pleasure cruiser, fishing boat, or have a fun day on a pontoon boat. Keep in mind that the maximum boat length is 26 feet and the maximum speed is 35 MPH – more than enough to pull a wake boarder or skier.

Lake Fun?
Got it
If you bring your own boat, there are multiple ways to get on the water. There are five private marinas on both the north and south shores {{ Link to page with info and links}}. You can rent a boat, launch a boat, or rent a seasonal slip. Plus, most lakeside houses have private docks, and many can be rented as a vacation rental.
There are also two public launch ramps. At the east end of the lake is the Carol Morrison Launch Ramp, located next to Stanfield cutoff with its entrance on North Shore Drive. The Duane Boyer Launch Ramp is located on the north shore, west of Fawnskin and before the dam. Both open at 6:00 am and close between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm depending on the day.
Family Friendly?
That too.
If you like fishing, you’re in luck. Big Bear Lake is well stocked with trout, crappie, catfish, largemouth bass, and lots of carp. There are a couple fishing tournaments, including the famous “Fishing For $50K,” where you can compete to catch a trout with a tag worth $50,000.
Also, the lake is popular with bow-hunters fishing for carp, and we have an annual “Carp Roundup.” With a carp population estimated at one million fish, every carp caught helps improve the fishery in the lake. All of the carp turned in during the roundup are ground up and used as fertilizer, so carp fishers are helping twice – while having a great time doing it.
